According to updated weather timelines, the threat for severe weather has shifted later in the afternoon to between 3p and 6p on Tuesday afternoon.

The threat for tornadoes remains high and the potential for flooding remains.

Environmental Service trash trucks will continue to remove debris this afternoon before the onset of severe weather. Tomorrow two trucks will run regular trash routes and the rest will assist the Water Department and TDOT with debris removal. Garbage and recycling trucks will continue to run normal routes.

Crews are working to clear debris and replace signs in Woodland Forrest. Heavy equipment is clearing storm drainage at the Woodlands and Hargrove Road and crews are clearing the culvert at Patton Lake. Staffing will remain at the same level as Monday night.

Sixty-five to 70 officers in patrolling and investigative units will be on duty during expected peak storm hours.

Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Services Structural Damage Report:

  • Major Damage: 24 homes
  • Moderate Damage: 38 homes
  • Minor Damage: 100+ homes

Twenty-four positions are staffed now and 18 staff members are on alert to be called in if needed.

City crews cannot enter private property to mitigate flooding.  Citizens can file a claim with OCA at 205-248-5140 and/or call Karen Thompson with VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters) at 205-758-5535 to request help.

2,900 people remain without power in Tuscaloosa County.

Tuscaloosa Magnet School and TCTA will serve as public safe rooms in the event of severe weather. The facilities will open 30 minutes after the National Weather Service issues a weather watch. (TPD requires a 30-minute lead-time to ensure appropriate staffing levels.)
