News of Wayne Mills' death has traveled fast. I was at my sister's wedding when I heard the tragic news from the Wayne Mills Band Facebook page. It's crazy, Wayne was just here in Tuscaloosa at Jupiter with Jamey Johnson. Monk from The Bear went to the show. I had Wayne on the phone that morning. He was shot yesterday by a Nashville bar owner, Chris Ferrell.

There was an altercation over smoking in the bar and gun shots followed. See newscast from Fox 17 in Nashville here.

He was always good for a laugh, and always gave his best at his shows. I can only imagine what his family and band/crew members are feeling right now.  I saw this on Twitter earlier this morning:

Word is Wayne has passed. God be with us all in this tragedy......

Other country artist, fans and friends shared their feelings on Twitter following the news.

Wayne had a special place here in Tuscaloosa. Lots of folks know this, but in case you didn't, Wayne played football under Coach Gene Stallings. Of the seventy-six players in that season’s walk-on group, only three made the team with Wayne being the only one to receive playing time. As he made the transition to his music career, he became a favorite with the fraternities and local bars in Tuscaloosa. I remember him playing a regular gig at Harry's every Tuesday.

Rest in Peace Wayne Mills, our thoughts and prayers go to those who need them most.
