The man who's accused of murdering country singer Wayne Mills is set to go on trial in March.

Chris Ferrell stands accused of second degree murder after killing Mills in the early morning hours on Nov. 23, 2013 at the Pit and Barrel, a bar he owned in downtown Nashville. Initial reports said he shot Mills during an argument over the singer smoking in the non-smoking section of the bar, but Ferrell claims Mills tried to rob and kill him, forcing him to shoot the singer in self-defense. There were no witnesses to the incident.

An autopsy showed that Mills died from a single gunshot to the back of the head, which was not fired at close range. The singer also sustained two broken ribs, as well as cuts on his forehead, temple and scalp, and bruises all over his body. Ferrell turned himself in to police on Dec. 6 and was released after posting $125,000 bond.

Ferrell's trial is set to begin on March 2 in Nashville. According to an update from Mills' widow, Carol, on his Facebook page, that day will be used for jury selection. She is encouraging friends and fans who want to attend the trial to be respectful.

"I would like to ask, because I know how difficult it is being in the courtroom with Wayne’s murderer, that we all remember we are representing Wayne," she writes. "It will be hard to keep emotions in check but I would like the Mills side of the courtroom to respect the judge and the process. Just a friendly reminder (for myself as well)."
