At this point, the players are just ready to go.

For the last time before the team hits the field against No. 20 Wisconsin Saturday in Arlington, Texas, Alabama coach Nick Saban addressed the media Wednesday to answer questions surrounding the team and its upcoming opponent.

But before fielding any inquiries from reporters, he put it bluntly about where the team currently stands.

“I think everybody’s a little tired of practicing against each other,” Saban said. “I think it’s time to find out where we are and go compete and play and see what’s up.”

For Alabama, ranked No. 3 in the preseason coaches poll, Saturday’s game will mark the seventh time in nine years under Saban where the team has played at least one neutral site game during the regular season. In its last game at AT&T Stadium, the Crimson Tide defeated then-No. 8 Michigan, 41-14.

Overall, Alabama is 5-0 under Saban when opening the season inside a domed stadium, outscoring opponents, 177-81, in the process.

“It’s a quality game and a quality place, AT&T Stadium in Dallas (Arlington),” Saban said.

All time, the Crimson Tide is playing Wisconsin for just the second time ever, with the Badgers claiming a 15-0 win in the lone previous meeting in 1928 in Madison.

Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will call the game on ABC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Quarterback competition still ongoing

Saban still won’t budge.

Asked one last time before Saturday if he has made any decision about a quarterback starter, or if the team would split reps with more than one player, the coach left little room for imagination.

“No, we’re just going to do what we think is best for our team,” Saban said.

Jake Coker, Alec Morris and Cooper Bateman were listed as co-starters at the position on the team’s officially released depth chart Monday.

Who’s going?

Because it’s a neutral-site game, Alabama won’t have any real limitations on its travel squad, as it would for a normal road game.

And as a result, Saban said “most of the scholarship players,” aside from mainly injured players, will make the trip.

“We’ll be somewhere in the mid- to upper-80s probably with a few other guys included,” Saban said.

The Crimson Tide will leave for Texas on Friday.
