Adam Griffith picked a pivotal moment to set a new personal best.

With 14 seconds before halftime against No. 2 LSU on Saturday, the redshirt junior nailed a career-long 55-yard field goal to give Alabama a 13-10 lead going into the break. The Crimson Tide pulled away in the second half to beat the Tigers, 30-16.

Griffith's 55-yarder was also the longest field goal make by an Alabama kicker since Ryan Pflugner made one from the same distance against Arkansas in 1998. Though Van Tiffin holds the school record with a 57-yard field goal against Texas A&M in 1985, it came with the use of a kicking tee, which was later outlawed by the NCAA in 1989.

Prior to Griffith's attempt, Alabama appeared set to punt the ball on 4th-and-11 from the LSU 37-yard line, but a Crimson Tide timeout with 21 seconds left seemingly nixed that plan. Coming out of the timeout, it was Griffith, not punter JK Scott, who ran out onto the field.

For Griffith, it was his second field goal of the game behind his 22-yard field goal to open the game's scoring with 11:08 left in the half. He later made a 29-yarder with 12:45 left in the game to extend Alabama's lead to 30-10.

Griffith had not attempted a field goal that long since his 57-yard attempt fell short on the final play of the 2013 Iron Bowl at Auburn.

Griffith also hit a 55-yard field goal during his senior season at Calhoun (Georgia) High School, a career long at that level.

His previous collegiate long was a 47-yard field goal made in the team's 2014 season opener against West Virginia.

Last season at LSU, Griffith drilled a 27-yard field goal with three seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime at 13-13. The Crimson Tide ultimately prevailed 20-13 in overtime.

He's now made 13-of-19 attempts this season, including eight straight. His last miss came on a 48-yard attempt on the final play of the first half against Arkansas on Oct. 10.

For his career, he's made 26 of 41 field attempts (63.4 percent). He's made 93 of 94 extra point attempts, with his lone miss coming in a 34-20 win at Tennessee last season.
