Over the weekend Campbell Soup brand, 'SpaghettiO's' inadvertently found itself in a bowl of controversy after sending out a tweet featuring the Os mascot holding  an American flag.

Along with the photo, the tweet read “Take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us.” Despite deleting the tweet and offering an apology along with the assurance that respect not offense was intended, the soup brand was hounded relentlessly for over ten hours. It wasn't long before the O's mascot began appearing in other tragedies like the Hindenburg Disaster and JFK's funeral.

I'm clearly in the minority, but I find the continued outrage overkill. Perhaps those who lived through the events of Pearl Harbor and the time that followed would be best qualified to weigh in.

Do I think using the mascot was probably poor judgement? Sure, but I've made more than my share of bad decisions. I'm more concerned with intent and I don't think the folks at Campbell meant any disrespect.

What I find most concerning are the ones who never acknowledge those who died as a result of Pearl Harbor at all.
