In 1993, Tuscaloosa-based musical group Young Country were poised to take the world by storm with their talent but one member's tragic loss changed everything.

Brian Freeman, Sean Sellers and Hoss Skelton made all the girls at TUSCOHI swoon and with very good reason: they had real talent coupled with a healthy respect for country music.

Young Country was well on their way to making a name for themselves when Sean Sellers (center with guitar) lost his brother Brylan after an altercation at a party in Duncanville.

My memories from that evening have grown hazy over time, but I believe several of us met that night at 'headquarters' (Northport K-Mart parking lot) prior to the party.

Brylan Sellers was a football star who was so handsome, it was unfair. He was poised to conquer the world. The last memory I have of him alive is his excitement at recently being signed to a modeling contract. I think I recall him sitting on the hood of a car telling me about his concerns that the lightener he'd put on his hair before going out would trickle down and ruin his new shirt. It was a fun exchange and a memory I'm glad I have regardless of when it occurred on the timeline of Brylan's life.

A few, short hours later he would be gone and his death left a chasm in the heart of his school, his friends and his family, particularly his brother Sean.

I don't know that Brylan's death is directly responsible for why Young Country didn't leave the footprint they could have but their inability to find musical success wasn't due to lack of talent.
