Tuscaloosa Teen Killed in Wreck This Morning Identified

Authorities have identified the 15-year-old girl who was killed in a wreck on Rice Mine Loop under Finnell Bridge early this morning.

According to Tuscaloosa Police, Ariel Sharee Backstrom, a 10th grader at Northridge High School was killed when the 2004 Mazda 6 she was a passenger in collided with a Honda Accord and a Mercedes SUV.

The accident occurred around 7:40 am Thursday morning and when police arrived, both Backstrom and the driver of the Mazda 6, a 16-year-old sophomore at Northridge High were unconscious. Both were transported to DCH where Backstrom was pronounced dead and the driver is listed in stable condition.

The drivers of the Honda Accord and Mercedes SUV suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Tuscaloosa County School Board has also cancelled their meetings tonight.
