Tuscaloosa Summer Food Programs Offer Free Meals For Students

The West Alabama Food Bank says over 292,000 kids in Alabama are at risk because they don't have enough to eat.  The Tuscaloosa County School System and Tuscaloosa City Schools fed almost 53,000 breakfast and lunch meals last summer with their summer feeding programs and this summer they're hoping to reach even more children.

Last year, a TCSS food bus traveled to three neighborhoods five days a week and served around 5,700 meals during the summer.  This summer they've expanded to eight locations, Mondays through Fridays until July 20. Students 18 years old and younger eat for free at the food bus and in the school system’s normal summer feeding programs at 14 different schools.

Tuscaloosa City Schools will have 32 locations for this summer's program including 10 new sites.
