Five Alabama restaurants, 2 of which are in Tuscaloosa, have made it into a poll chosen by readers of USA TODAY, in a attempt to determine the "Best Southern BBQ."

In the poll, Tuscaloosa is represented nicely by Archibald's & Woodrow's and the legendary Dreamland BBQ while other Alabama pork houses on the list include Saw's BBQ in Birmingham, Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q in Decatur and Miss Myra's Pit Bar-B-Q in Vestavia Hills.

Texas, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kansas also have dog in the fight but are swiftly outnumbered by those here in the "Heart of Dixie."

Most states or cities tend to stick to a certain style of barbecue but multiple types are popular here in Alabama. You'll find the white sauce barbecue typically in north Alabama, especially around Decatur where chicken tends to be the meat of choice. Barbecue in eastern Alabama leans more toward a Carolina style sauce made up of vinegar, mustard and tomato. In most other parts of our great state, pork is the most popular barbecue meat.

Which is your favorite barbecue restaurant? I've already made my choice! Take the poll here and let's get at least one of these Alabama businesses to the top of the list!
