While leaving concert venue Saturn in Birmingham last week with his girlfriend, Tuscaloosa resident Ronnie Lee Gipson was shot in the back.

With a bullet still lodged between his ribs, Gipson is expected to make a full recovery but will live the rest of his life with a reminder of that horrifying night.

Following the shooting, friends started a GoFundMe page to help Gipson with medical bills. In two days, the amount raised had already reached over $25,000. Egan's Bar in Tuscaloosa and Syndicate Lounge in Birmingham quickly put together benefit shows and Tuscaloosa's roller derby team, Druid City Dames also raised money during a local ping-pong tournament. All of this coupled with the number of people who showed up to visit him in the hospital absolutely floored the humble musician.
