A Tuscaloosa man faces charges after confessing to starting a wildfire in Hamilton County, Tennessee, outside of Chattanooga.

Sequatchie County Sheriff's deputies received a call about the wildfire just after 9 am on Monday, November 14th and subsequently arrested Matthew Ryan Wallace of Tuscaloosa around 5 pm that same day after his vehicle was spotted in the area by a deer camera.

Investigators say that Wallace admitted to throwing a cigarette into a pile of leaves, watching it catch fire and then leaving the scene.

Wallace faces charges that include setting fire to personal property or land.

Tennessee, as with most southern states has been dealing with severe drought conditions and wildfire like this are all too frequent.
