I had the opportunity last week to finally try Anthony's Italian Kitchen and all of the rave reviews I had heard were confirmed! The food rocked!

I've always been a sucker for Italian food and had heard from several different sources that I must try this family owned and operated restaurant located on McFarland Blvd, just across the river. While I was there, I also learned about who Anthony really is and how this restaurant is bringing hope to the poor.

The owners have a history of running restaurants so when their son came up with the idea to open Anthony's Italian Kitchen, he presented the idea with a twist.

The restaurant's namesake is Anthony Privette, son to owners Vincent and Tina. After running a string of successful restaurants, Anthony presented the idea of opening an Italian restaurant in Tuscaloosa but with a twist.

Anthony is currently pursuing a career as a missionary and works in Uganda with The Master Cares, a group of leaders who help families rebuild their country while also spreading the word of God.

I was also excited to learn that much of the proceeds collected from Anthony’s Italian Kitchen will go to Anthony to help him continue his efforts. So, why aren't you eating there tonight?? Wait, you're waiting for a food review, got it. Here goes...

My meal started with their Pizza Fries! Nicely seasoned, twice cooked fries topped with mozzarella cheese and two pizza toppings. I opted for double the pepperoni. The fries themselves has a rustic, natural cut flavor and paired nicely with my topping choices and their amazing homemade pizza sauce!

Next up, came my pizza!

I opted to be different here to by ordering their White Pizza topped with meatballs! The homemade Alfredo sauce was perfectly creamy and coupled with the meatballs, made this a pizza choice I will taste again. Every bite was packed with an overwhelming blast of flavor thanks to the Alfredo and the blend of cheeses used to top this bad boy!

Prepare yourself, dessert is next...

Wow! They call them Bama Bites. Homemade mini rolls filled with cream chesse, topped with a fantastic warm caramel maple sauce, pecans and finished with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. About 5 minutes into eating this one, the ice cream had melted down some and mixed with the sauce to create a sharp, sweet flavor that can only be compared to the first time you fell in love.

The next time you eat at Anthony's Italian Kitchen, please save room for dessert and report back to me with your findings!

Anthony's has a full menu that also includes: sandwiches, pasta entrees, salads and kid's menu.

In closing, I love the fact that this family and their restaurant have decided to share a portion of their earnings with people less fortunate. That fact alone warrants more of my business. I also love how they're focused on making fresh, homemade menu items.

Anthony's Italian Kitchen is located at 1351 McFarland Blvd. in Tuscaloosa. They can be reached by calling 205.523.7548 or by visiting their website.
