Tuscaloosa is entering the final phase of a competition that focuses on a community’s ability to recover from and withstand future disasters.

The City of Tuscaloosa is entering the 2nd and final phase of the National Disaster Resilience Competition.

A press release from The City read,

The City has successfully demonstrated unmet needs as defined by HUD, and will now propose projects that advance comprehensive resilience plans envisioned in the first phase.

The maximum grant award available at the end of phase two will be $500 million and the minimum will be $1 million.

HUD's National Disaster Resilience Competition makes $1 billion available to communities that have been struck by natural disasters in recent years. The competition promotes risk assessment, stakeholder engagement and planning and will fund the implementation of innovative resilience projects to better prepare communities for future storms and other extreme events.

Phase two applications must be submitted by Oct 27.
