The first words out of my mouth the morning after this past Christmas were, 'I think I'm going to paint the kitchen today.'

Thus began my home makeover journey that has led me to a redesigned backyard, organized kitchen drawers and an understanding of power tools. The best part of my renovation efforts is that they're comprised mainly of items I already owned.

I'd planned on using my garage sale proceeds toward the purchase of a new one, but a friend told me about a gentleman in Sulligent who reupholstered furniture at a really good price. Another friend had given me the idea of using drop cloth from Walmart as the fabric. The canvas is durable and easy to clean if say...your dogs or your kids messed them up.

I reached out to Chris and discovered he was continuing the business his father began over 50 years ago.  'George's Upholstery' continues the dying art of recovering  old furniture, specializing in church pews:

Chris arrived on a Monday afternoon and drove off with the old red couch, two chairs I'd hidden in the garage several years ago, a chaise lounge no one wants to lounge on any longer and two plastic bags from Walmart:

Four days later, Chris pulled in the driveway and unloaded his work:

I purchased a few yards of outdoor patio furniture fabric for the chaise so I can hose that bad boy down if need arises.

I've since remembered another chair and ottoman I'd banished from the house two years ago and I've had to cancel my garage sale. I've ended up reusing most of everything that would be of interest to anyone.
