Starting Sunday night, that congestion on McFarland Blvd is about to really slow down.  ALDOT will begin work Sunday on close off lanes near the interchange with Interstate 20/59 as part of project to add lanes and install a suspension bridge.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, crews will block off the eastbound, inside turn lane of McFarland Boulevard onto I-20/59 and the inside, westbound through-traffic lane will be converted into a turn lane onto the interstate.  The result will be three through traffic lanes on the eastbound side of McFarland Boulevard’s with one turn lane, and two through traffic lanes  and one turn lane on the westbound side.

Work is expected to last 12 to 18 months.
