The winning streak for Thomas Rhett’s tender love ballad “Die a Happy Man” continues: After big wins at the 2016 ACM Awards, Rhett took home the 2016 American Country Countdown Awards trophy for Song of the Year for the track, written about his wife.

The subdued performance, featuring just Rhett and his guitar, was smoldering and engaging, as the entire audience joined him in a sing-a-long on the deeply romantic track. With lyrics like “If I never get to see the Northern Lights / Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night / Oh, if all I got is your hand in my hand / Baby, I could die a happy man," it's no wonder that the tune has become such a hit.

“Oh my gosh, thank you. To country music fans, thank you so much. I’ve gotta thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for allowing me to do this, and my lovely wife Lauren. Love you, babe; this song was inspired by you,” said Rhett as he accepted the award from fellow country newcomer Jana Kramer and American Idol winner Trent Harmon.

"Die a Happy Man" has been remarkably successful for Rhett, climbing to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and earning a platinum certification.
