Today, we kick off Memorial Day weekend. Hyped as the "Unofficial Kick Off to Summer", this weekend is full of blowout sale advertisements, beach trips and backyard grill masters but May 25th is much, much more than that.

Memorial Day honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

The soldiers who died should be honored. They should be remembered. On January 20th 1981, President Ronald Reagan gave his Inaugural Address on the West Front of the United States Capitol Building with Arlington National Cemetery in the distance.

This highlight from his speech may be the most well written and well spoken words I've ever heard - reminding us, as Americans, that we should pause and honor our fallen soldiers. If only we all could be as dedicated.
