Texas-based band the Western Flyers have a cover of the song "Old Fashioned Love" (country fans may be familiar with Merle Haggard's version of the tune) to share, and they're letting The Boot's readers hear it first.

"Old Fashioned Love" was written by Cecil Mack and James P. Johnson, and first performed by Adelaide Hall in the early 1920s. Its upbeat tempo and classic, romantic lyrics make the song an easy listen, and it was a no-brainer for the Western Flyers, who call themselves the "biggest little Western swing band in the land," to record.

""Old Fashioned Love" is one of our all-time favorite tunes for listening, as well as a favorite to play as a band," the band tells The Boot. "It's definitely one of those infectious tunes that has it all -- great lyrics, cool chords and a wonderful, happy feel."

The Western Flyers are a trio made up of internationally renowned guitar master Joey McKenzie, reigning National Swing Fiddle champion Katie Glassman and world-class upright bassist Gavin Kelso, and their rendition of "Old Fashioned Love" shows off each of their strengths together in a seamless performance. Haggard recorded "Old Fashioned Love" for his 12th studio album, A Tribute to the Best Damn Fiddle Player in the World (or, My Salute to Bob Wills), released in 1970. Wills, Asleep at the Wheel and Roy Acuff are among the many others who have recorded the tune.

"We especially love the versions by Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys and Merle Haggard, so we wanted to honor them while also putting our Western Flyers brand on the song," the band explains. "When we were putting the tunes together for [our new album], Wild Blue Yonder, "Old Fashioned Love" was a song all us Western Flyers knew must be on the album."

The Western Flyers' new project, Wild Blue Yonder, is set for release on July 29. The project will be available through their official webstore.
