The inaugural Alabama Blues Weekend was held July 7-8, 2017, on The University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa.

Weekend activities, attended by students, parents and the general public, consisted of the showing of a film on blues legend Willie King, two blues concerts, breakout sessions led by blues experts, music industry experts and UA faculty and more.

Participants were also allowed access to see accomplished musicians as well as students of the Alabama Blues Project at work. Some of those masters included Dave Crenshaw (CeeLo Green, Snoop Dogg), Black Jacket Symphony touring drummer Mark Lanter, Trombonist B. J. Miller (Taj Mahal, B.B. King, Willie Clayton), three-time Grammy nominated guitarist Keithen Ruff, UA Professor of Jazz Studies Tom Wolfe, local legend Earl "Guitar" Williams, and more!
