Interested in knowing more about law enforcement and how it serves our communities, specifically YOUR own? Make plans to attend National Night Out.

Its website describes National Night Out as "an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, better places to live." At National Night Out, you also have the opportunity to learn more about how the police department works, including departments within. Get information on how you may participate in ride-alongs and citizens' academy.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department is a long-time participant in National Night Out. In recent years, the event has been held at Sokol Park. This year's event is Tuesday, August 2 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

The Community Task Force (a grassroots organization which is working to improve communication between neighbors, area businesses, and law enforcement) encourages EVERYONE to attend this year's event. It is recommended to ask questions, to meet the officers who work your beats, and to develop relationships with them. (Side note: The group's next meeting will be held at the Plum Grove Baptist Church on Monday, August 1 at 6 p.m.)

Go ahead and make plans to attend and be sure to spread the word to your friends, family, and coworkers.
