This past weekend, hundreds gathered at Government Plaza as The Community Foundation of West Alabama presented the Black Warrior River Fiddle Fest.

The weather held off on Friday and Saturday as prizes were awarded in instrument and band competitions ranging from fiddle to banjo, guitar and even buck dancing! A giant tent gave shelter from the sun and Alabama heat as bluegrass musicians young and old competed for prize money and bragging rights. A grand total of $7500 in prize money was awarded for the top 5 places in each of 14 divisions.

In the end, Middle Tennessee State University student Maddie Denton was crowned 2016 Grand Champion!

Here are a few pictures from Saturday's event.
