Black Warrior Riverkeeper is seeking to change the way we're notified after a sewage spill, the local environmental advocacy agency wants us to get information in a more reliable and timely manner.
A sewer pump malfunction in Northpost over Independence Day weekend resulted in hundreds of thousands--and possibly even MILLIONS--of gallons of raw sewage being pumped directly into the Black Warrior River and surrounding creeks.
We are now told that more than 400,000 gallons of raw sewage overflowed from pumping stations in Northport last weekend. This is 4 times greater than the 100,000 they city had originally said dumped into 4 different creeks and rivers including the big one, the ole Black Warrior...
