Junior pitcher Sydney Littlejohn’s stellar week in the circle has garnered her national accolades, earning Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Tuesday.

Littlejohn is the fifth player in program history to be named NFCA National Player or Pitcher of the Week, the first since Jaclyn Traina on March 25, 2014. On Monday, Littlejohn was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week.

"Sydney was terrific last week against two of the best teams in the country,” head coach Patrick Murphy said. “She has matured tremendously as a player and person and we are seeing the results of that on the field. Her hard work in the bullpen with our pitching coach Stephanie VanBrakle is certainly paying off."

The Rusk, Texas native went 3-0 last week in three starts, earning a win over No. 15 Missouri and two wins over No. 1 Florida. Her victory last Monday over the Tigers clinched the series for the Tide. She held the potent Missouri offense to just two runs on four hits in the five-inning victory. In two starts against the top-ranked Gators in Gainesville, she allowed just one run on seven hits over 13.1 innings pitched, including just one extra-base hit. She handed Florida its first home loss of the season on Friday and its first SEC series-opening loss in nearly two years. Sunday’s 3-0 shutout in the series rubber match marked the first time Florida had been shut out in Gainesville since Alabama did so on March 23, 2014.
