Strange Alabama- Rattlesnake Rodeo

Yes there is an Opp, Alabama. And yes there is such thing as a Rattlesnake Rodeo.

Every year during the first weekend in March, the men and women of Covington County gather together to watch herds of slimy reptiles slither down the street in an organized race. There is also the crowning of the Rattlesnake Queen that kicks off the entire celebration. Prizes are given for the longest, the heaviest, and the fattest snake found and the kids participate in fun activities such as arts and crafts. Oh, and don't forget the food. Not only is rattlesnake the main course, it is prepared in every way imaginable.

For most people, this festival may not be the most ideal way to have a good time but the folks of Opp, Alabama sure do take pride in it!
