If you haven't heard of Paul Bryant then, no offense, you aren't a true Alabama fan. This being said, there are a lot of things people don't know about this football legend.

Apparently Bear Bryant received his nickname in 1927 when, during a carnival, he volunteered to wrestle a muzzled bear in order to impress a girl. He was supposed to be paid one dollar a minute but the man running the event skipped town before Bear collected the money.

Another fun fact about the coach is that while at the Rose Bowl with the Alabama football class of 1937, he was offered an acting gig. Although his contract was written up and ready to go, his wife, Mary Harmon Black refused to to move to California.

Paul "Bear" Bryant lived an incredible life not only as a coach but as a human being. Read more fascinating tidbits about this extraordinary man's life by clicking on the link below.
