Dismals Canyon is located in Phil Campbell, Alabama and is considered a National Natural Landmark.

The reason for its dreary name can be traced back to the glowing worms that inhabit the moss covering the canyon's rocks. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of these creepy crawlers that emit a spooky light, giving them the name "dismalites."

There are also many beautiful aspects to this geologic wonder. The area contains two beautiful waterfalls, six natural bridges, and a number of magical grottos. There have also been over 350 species of exotic plants and twenty-seven species of trees identified over the years.

Rumor has it that Aaron Burr even used the Dismal Canyon as a hiding place after defeating Alexander Hamilton in a duel!
