The DeSoto Caverns, previously known as Kymulga Cave is located in Childersburg, Alabama and has quite an amazing history dating back to the 1700's.

During this time, a European trader by the name of I.W. Wright was exploring the area when he stopped by the Kymulga Cave and inscribed his name on one of the rocks. Unknown to Wright, this particular cave was being utilized by local Indians as a sacred burial site. When the Indians found out about Wright's indiscretion, they scalped and killed him on the spot. Over 100 years after this incident, the body of I.W. Wright was found laying next to carving that cost him his life. Many refer to this as the oldest form of graffiti in the country.

The Cave also once carried the nickname of "The Bloody Bucket" for reasons other than I.W. Wright. During the Prohibition times, the cave was turned into a bar which became quite rowdy at times. There were multiple instances of fights, stabbings, and shoot-outs that resulted in the gory nickname. Needless to say, the DeSoto Caverns have seen quite a bit of blood.
