The bodies of five missing South Carolina children were discovered in Wilcox County yesterday. Authorities searched areas of Butler and Wilcox Counties after the father of the children, Timothy Ray Jones, Jr. confessed to killing his children and dumping their bodies off a rural highway between Camden and Greenville, Alabama.

The children, ages 1 to 8, were reported missing September 3, 2014 in Lexington, South Carolina. Jones apparently had primary custody of the children; he had reportedly told investigators he was moving out of state.

Al.com reports that the bodies of the five children will be transported back to South Carolina for official autopsies. Jones is in police custody, and al.com also reports:

Lexington County Sheriff Lewis McCarty said this evening that charges are pending against the children's father, Timothy Ray Jones Jr., 32. He is currently charged with unlawful neglect of a child by a legal custodian.

Jones is currently being held in the Smith County, Miss. Jail after being arrested Sept. 6 on charges connected to a motor vehicle public safety checkpoint, the sheriff stated in a release.

Jones reportedly admitted to killing his children and told authorities he dumped their bodies off Alabama Highway 10 between Camden and Greenville, Ala.
