Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating a crash that happened Wednesday on I-59 near the 98 mile marker, three mile north of Vance.

According to Senior Trooper Reginald King,

A single-vehicle crash, June 21, claimed the life of a pedestrian. Darrell James Pettie, 54, of Bessemer was killed when he was struck by a 2005 Dodge 1500. Pettie was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Dodge left the scene of the crash on foot before a positive identification could be obtained. The preliminary investigation indicates that Pettie was involved in a crash moments before, and was outside his vehicle when he was struck by the Dodge. The crash occurred at 2:35 p.m. on I-59 near the 98 mile marker, three miles north of Vance. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
