The situation quickly got out of hand on Saturday night when Tuscaloosa Police responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex on Frank Thomas Ave.

Charges including harassment, obstruction of governmental operations and resisting arrest were brought against three University of Alabama students: 21-year-old Brandon James Williford, 22-year-old Matthew Macia and 22-year-old Caroline Giddis.

When officers arrived just after 2:00 am on Sunday, they attempted to speak with the suspects before the situation quickly escalated.

The incident started after a brief argument that was captured by multiple smartphone cameras. The footage shows police officers pulling the three students out of an apartment. One student was tased and beaten with a baton as multiple officers arrived on the scene.

As a result, three Tuscaloosa Police officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Tuscaloosa Police Chief Anderson stated in a press conference on Monday,

Once I started receiving the videos and watching what occurred, I was deeply disturbed and disappointed by the way our officers responded.

We've heard from several listeners over the past few days and have received several different reactions. Some say charges should be be dropped because the situation was mishandled and some say the internal investigation is young and authorities should be given the opportunity to investigate every element thoroughly.
