Look Your Best With These Seven Beauty Essentials for Spring
Spring is finally here--after what felt like the longest, coldest winter ever. I mean, really--it was ridiculously cold this year. It's Alabama, not Alaska. SERIOUSLY. It's time to get bright and breezy; these seven hot spring trends will have you looking and feeling your best while the world is in bloom!
Winter always leaves me with dry, flaky skin. I want my skin to be soft and supple before rocking a sundress, which is why I use Burt's Bees Mama Bee Nourishing Oil. It's all natural, lightweight, and never feels greasy. It has a light and luscious lemon scent which is perfect for Spring. I don't know what it is about lemons, but I crave them in the Spring. Maybe I get scurvvy or whatever. That's beside the point. What I am getting at is that this stuff is awesome, and you need a bottle ASAP. Your skin will be soft and shiny, and you can thank me later.
Most people think a flawless complexion takes work. It does, but working hard is stupid. I'm all about maximum results with minimum effort, which is why I am singing the praises of Benefit Cosmetics' Big Easy this Spring. It's Benefit's BB cream, but it's better than any BB I've tried. It evens out my skin tone and hides imperfections with medium coverage. It balances moisture and oil, which is awesome because my T-Zone is greasier than Paula Deen's kitchen counter. This BB contains a sunscreen which is ESSENTIAL. (Never forget your sunscreen, girls. It's the secret to keeping younger-looking skin.) AND this BB has a liquid-to-powder finish so BAM! Perfect skin in a bottle. I love me some Benefit Cosmetics.
When Spring arrives, I want to look sun-kissed. This is a problem, because I am a hermit all winter and look like a character in an Anne Rice novel because homegirl has some PALE skin. I'm not about to stand for hours in the sun (we just talked about sunscreen, so y'all know how I feel about tanning), which is why I fake my glow with bronzer. Physician's Formula Sexy Glow Bronzer is perfect. It contains several different shimmering hues which blend perfectly to your unique skin tone. Physician's Formula products have always been quality and worked well with my skin, so I'm more than happy to recommend them to anyone I know. Plus you can get them at any drugstore, and... can we talk about the packaging? How sexy is this? The little corset and fishnets and stiletto make me feel like I'm an extra in Burlesque. That was a terrible movie, but it had Cher AND Xtina in it, sooo... Sorry. Off topic again. Buy this bronzer. Get your glow on.
I am OBSESSED with growing out my brows. I used to tweeze them in to oblivion, and now I want full natural brows. Natural brows are HUGE right now. Brow Goddess Brooke Shields has passed down her legacy to stars like Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, and Allison Williams. If you need a little help filling your brows in or just need to tame what you've got, check out NYX Cosmetics' Eyebrow Cake Powder. This kit has everything you need for fab brows. Use the powder to fill in, the mascara-wand-looking-spoolie-thing (I'm sure that's the correct term) to brush your hairs into place, and the waxy pomade to seal those suckers in place. Man, I am crazy about fierce brows.
Berry Lips are blowing UP this Spring. It's one of the season's hottest beauty trends. You don't have to go as dark as some of the shades Lorde rocks, but a purple or orchid hue is a must this Spring. Wet 'n' Wild's Megaslicks Balm Stain Moisturizing Lip Color is my jam (OH SNAP. BAD BERRY PUN ALERT!) right now. I have been using the shade "The Lady and The Vamp" which is like a dead-on perfect dupe for my discontinued Smashbox Limitless Lipstain. It's a beautiful berry shade, and it lasts. You can sweep on one coat for a sheer look, or layer it on for a more dramatic lip. This stuff is like $2 a tube so just go to Rite Aid or wherever and buy one in every shade. WORTH IT.
Spring means warmer weather, and here in the Dirty South, that means HUMIDITY, the sworn enemy of hair and makeup. How do you keep from sweating off your makeup? You use NYX's Makeup Setting Spray. It comes in two finishes--Matte and Dewy. The matte stays matte. Like, through workouts and chasing a toddler and cleaning house. My makeup was still there. Spring is all about that dewy glow, so I'm using the Dewy Finish now. I really don't understand how I have lived almost 30 years and just now found out about this product. It is liquid gold makeup insurance. They should pass out a bottle to every woman who crosses the state line. Your makeup ain't going anywhere this Spring, girls. Spray, Set, and GO.
Humidity takes its toll on hair, too. I should know, because I have naturally curly hair that turns into a dreadlock of doom whenever I am within ten feet of a body of water, rainstorm, or garden hose. I like straightening my hair, but this time of year I can't keep it straight--which is why I use L'Oreal's Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Extraordinary Oil. I apply it to damp hair before blowdrying for sleek, shiny strands. I've been using the entire Total Repair line for several months now, and I am fully converted. It works to repair damage and keep your hair looking healthy. I love my ombre hair, but the dying process is so hard on the ends--the Total Repair line reverses that damage. I love this Extraordinary Oil. I even keep some in my purse to smooth any renegade frizzies or flyaways that pop up throughout the day. 10/10. Will always buy again.
