I stumbled on a bunch of old wooden pallets last Thursday. I figured I could use the wood on a few weekend projects. This past weekend, I set out to create a planter box for my tomato plant.

I disassembled the pallet with a crowbar and a hammer. The bigger pallet boards were 40" long so I cut them in half and used them for the sides of my box. The slats were cut from the smaller boards. I was even able to reuse the nails!

What I like most about this project is the materials cost ZERO dollars!  I didn't get in a hurry on this. The boards are rough and don't match and the old nail holes show.  It took about 2 hours to build. My wife has suggested I put a colored stain on it. She said a distressed blue or red. I may give that a shot. The tomato plant looks lonely so I'm adding a couple of pepper plants this week.  For now, check out the pics of my DYI Planter Box:
