Today we go back to the 1990's. 1991 to be specific. This debut single from a 6 piece band soared to number 1 on the country charts and made history. The band was the first ever country group to send a debut single to number one.

Diamond Rio blazed on the country music scene with their first album "Diamond Rio" in 1991. 6 guys made up the band, Marty Roe (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Johnson (mandolin, guitar, fiddle, tenor vocals), Jimmy Olander (lead guitar, Dobro, banjo), Brian Prout (drums), Dan Truman (keyboards, organ, synthesizer), and Dana Williams (bass guitar, baritone vocals).

Diamond Rio has won four Group of the Year awards from the CMA's, two Top Vocal Group awards from the ACM's, and one Grammy Award out of thirteen nominations.

I am a fan because of their harmonies and the fact that they used a pile of different instruments on their records, and the fact that they played on their albums instead of session musicians. Listen to Madison and Shepherd every Friday at 7:30 for another Flashback!
