A Friday afternoon accident around 3:40pm in Pickens County left over a dozen injured. The crash happened in Ethelsville at the intersection of county roads 30 and 35 involving a school bus and a SUV.

Of those injured, 3 were airlifted to Birmingham hospital with serious injuries. Two of those being kids who went to Alabama Children's Hospital and one adult who went to UAB Hospital. The remaining 13 injured went to area medical centers.

State Trooper spokesman Reginal King spoke on the crash, as reported by the Tuscaloosa News, by saying:

The crash forced both vehicles off the roadway, and the bus slammed into two trees, resulting in most of the damage. The Pickens County school bus was carrying 14 students ranging in grades from elementary through high school. The bus driver and the driver of the sports utility vehicle also were injured. The SUV driver was from Mississippi.

FOX 6's Kelvin Reynolds reporting there is one fatality from this awful wreck, the bus driver Sharon Hood.

Pickens County Schools shared a condolence note on Facebook saying:

It is with a heavy heart that the Pickens County Board of Education and its Superintendent announce the loss of one of our veteran bus drivers, Mrs. Sharon Hood, as a result of a motor vehicle accident yesterday in Pickens County.

 

She was a dedicated and hard working driver who loved and cherished the children she transported each day. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband and family as well as with all members of the Pickens County School System family.

 

The family of Mrs. Hood appreciates all those who have expressed their concerns and condolences and ask everyone to respect their need for privacy at this time.

 

The family will soon announce the arrangements for Mrs. Hood.
