Actress Halle Berry and former GOP hopeful Sarah Palin might seem like polar opposites on just about every conceivable level. However, they do have one strong commonality.

The actress told Extra she is a distant relative of the former Alaska governor.

Berry made the surprising revelation in an interview with actor Tom Hanks while promoting their new film 'Cloud Atlas.' She told Extra correspondent Jerry Penacoli, "Somebody sent me this information that she was my distant [relative]." When asked how they were related, she responded, "Some twisted way."

This isn't the first time Berry's lineage has been attached to another celebrity. Soul singing sensation Aretha Franklin recently announced that her family history research revealed she may be related to the actress after she discovered that both of their grandmothers were first cousins.

She's also not the only famous face to recently claim that they have an equally famous relative in their extended family tree. Pop sensation Justin Bieber recently discovered that he has a number of celebrities in his family timelines: Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne and Ryan Gosling. 'Good Will Hunting' stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck turned out to be more than just best bros when the New England Genealogical Society discovered they were actually distant cousins. The genealogy website Ancestry.com revealed a link between 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson and Vlad IV Tzepesch, better known as Vlad the Impaler who served as the basis for the title character in Bram Stoker's 'Dracula.'
