What started as a challenge among friends in North Carolina has transformed into a nationally publicized charity race, and a growing tradition in the city of Tuscaloosa.

The 5th Annual Krispy Kreme Challenge will take place at Government Plaza on Saturday morning, February 25th.

According to organizers, the most asked question is simply, “What is the Tuscaloosa Krispy Kreme Challenge?” Participants of the race will begin at the Start line, run one mile, pick up one dozen doughnuts, eat the doughnuts and run one mile back to the finish line.

This is a spectacle and intended to simply be good wholesome family fun. All ages are invited to attend!

Here’s the rundown of how it works. There will be 2 categories:

  1. Challenger – finishing 12 doughnuts is required
  2. Casual – eat as many doughnuts, or as few, as you would and then return to the start/finish line.

And for anyone really looking at the numbers… 12 doughnuts equals 2400 calories.

As in the past four years, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama.
