Ravens Linebacker Rolando McClain Retiring from the NFL

Baltimore Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome announced Wednesday that linebacker Rolando McClain is retiring from the NFL.

The 23-year-old McClain puts an end to a tumultuous NFL career that saw him make more headlines off the field than on. Just two weeks ago, the Super Bowl champions talked about giving him a second chance despite having been arrested shortly he signed with Baltimore. That arrest brought the total to three in 16 months.

The Oakland Raiders drafted McClain with the 8th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. In three seasons with the Raiders, he finished with 274 tackles (195 solo), 6.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and 23 passes defensed in 41 career games. There weren't many highlights during his career, but most people will remember his body slamming Danny Amendola.

Alabama fans will remember the Decatur native for his leadership at the middle linebacker position. During his final season in 2009, McClain won the Lambert and Butkus Awards while being selected as a unanimous All-American. That year marked the Crimson Tide's first national championship since 1992.
