A couple from Headland, Alabama has been arrested on multiple animal cruelty charges and a felony as deputies found evidence showing their dogs attacked and ate another dog out of hunger.

The dogs were discovered at a residence just outside the South Alabama of Headland, which is near Dothan. It all happened when authorities went to the house to take custody of their 4 year-old child. The couple had apparently abandoned their home, leaving the dogs left behind chained to trees with no food or water.

Henry County Sheriff’s Lt. James S. Culbreath told the Dothan Eagle:

We found four pit bulls tied to four different trees. They were just skin and bones. They were chained to a tree with a large, heavy chain. The heavy chains on the dogs restricted them so they could hardly move.

The shocking discovery for authorities continued inside the home as a half eaten pit bull dog was found near another pit bull dog. Lt. Culbreath commented, "the one inside got hungry enough to eat the other dog.”

Reports say the couple abandoned the dogs two to three weeks prior to being discovered.

Henry County Sheriff's Department released a couple of photos showing the tortured animals. Warning, the photos are very disturbing.  So you know, photos from inside the house are not being shown.
