Pioneer Cemetery — Strange Alabama

Located behind First Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama is a time machine of sorts. Pioneer Cemetery is the final resting place of those interred in over more than 900 graves, some marked and others not. Together they weave fascinating stories about the people who called Abbeville home.

One of the graves features the name of Cinderalla and another grave bears the body of a Civil War veteran who supposedly gave the order to fire the last shot of the bloody war. Each Spring ushers in the arrival of beautiful flowers and heralds Yatta Atta Day. During this annual event, tours are available with costumed characters who share stories and histories of the community's past.
