This past April, I was forced to beat my dog with a bag of burritos from Taco Casa after one of my Mallard hens became so consumed with greed for cat food, she entered the Danger Zone inside Petey's Invisible Fence.

Thankfully, disaster was averted and while I would willingly sacrifice supper for one of my ducks again, the experience was frightening (obviously) and both my dog and I were changed forever.

The hunt is strong within Petey. Each day, countless hours are spent staring up through a confusing maze of tree branches while his eyes track the paths of busy squirrels that run to and fro, chattering with nervous indignation.

Petey embodies the definition of discipline. He is discipline.

Were the brilliant military general, strategist, and Chinese philosopher, Sun Tzu alive today, he would have featured Petey in his treatise, The Art of War.

Petey has reached a level of self-restraint few can even imagine, but he is still a dog. Under the right conditions, including all which involve ducks, he is vulnerable to the ancient animal code hidden within his DNA.

I did not have to intercede on the duck's behalf this time which is particularly fortunate for him because I made a casserole.
