Oakwood Cemetery Annex, located in Montgomery, is not only the final resting place of Hank Williams but this historic cemetery features some of the most elaborate monuments and headstone in the state. Dating back to the early 1800's, this burial site is also the final stop for some of Alabama's forefathers and approximately 75 French soldiers from World War II.

Hidden on the grounds and difficult to find is the Wreford family vault located along a hillside facing the railroad tracks. Sadly, Samuel Phippen Wreford is the only member buried here who eternally rests in a metal casket in the shape of a canoe. Wreford was reportedly buried with some of his valuables resulting in many break ins, including once by his son who stole the diamond pin his father was buried with. The vault has since been welded shut but legend says Wreford's bones now lie scattered about the cemetery.

You can visit Oakwood Cemetery Annex Monday through Friday from dawn to dusk.
