Thanks to a local non-profit, health and vision screenings are being offered to children in 17 Alabama counties, including many in West Alabama.

According to WVTM, Sight Savers America was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commision, which will be used to hold school-based screenings in Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, DeKalb, Etowah, Hale, Jackson, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Macon, Marshall, Pickens, Talladega and Walker Counties.

During these screenings, any urgent issues are addressed immediately. After the screenings, parents are given detailed reports on their children. Other partnerships work to address and maintain the overall health of the children. Read more.
