Nick Saban Updates Secondary After Eddie Jackson’s Surgery Goes ‘Really, Really Well’

The bye week came at a great time for the Alabama coaching staff. The extra practice time before facing LSU will allow the staff to figure out how to replace senior safety and defensive leader Eddie Jackson.

The playmaker suffered a fractured leg in the 33-14 win over Texas A&M on a punt return and underwent surgery this week.

"Eddie's surgery went really, really well," head coach Nick Saban said. "He should have no future problems. Very similar to the surgery that he had before a few years ago, which he came back and played on for two years and had no problems with. These are not related injuries but he's going to be fine. This will not affect his future in any shape or form."

That's great news for the future NFL Draft pick. Now the team begins preparing for the final month of the season without their starting safety.

Tuesday's practice gave media a glimpse into one possible change for the secondary. Sophomore Minkah Fitzpatrick worked at safety during the viewing period.

"We're trying to get the best combination of players on the field that we can for the personnel group that we play," Saban said. "So we'll do a little experimenting this week and probably after this week we'll decide what the best way for us to go."
