In the moments following Alabama's 49-30 victory over Arkansas, Nick Saban had his mind on something besides his team's performance. As soon as he shook hands at midfield, Saban chased down Arkansas center Frank Ragnow.

The offensive lineman lost his father to a heart attack a week earlier, and Saban wanted to offer him some encouragement. WVUA23 caught the exchange on video, which you can see above.

This is how Saban described the conversation.

“I lost my father when I was in my first year of graduate school,” Saban said after the game. “He’s a fine young man and player. For him to have to go through that, our thoughts and prayers are with his family. I wanted to tell him that and try to encourage him to some kind of way embrace the good memories and the good times that he had with his father because that’ll be something that he can keep with him forever.”

Saban knows how to deal with the sudden loss of a father. He experienced the same thing in 1973 when Nick Sr. died of a heart attack.
