The hiring of Greg Byrne took a lot of people by surprise on Monday, but the overwhelming response both locally and nationally is that Alabama got it right.

Byrne will join The University of Alabama after previously overseeing athletics at Arizona and Mississippi State. During his seven years in Tuscon, Byrne oversaw major renovation projects to the school's football stadium, kept basketball coach Sean Miller from leaving for Pittsburgh, and picked up his first national championship when the Wildcats won the College World Series in 2012.

He won't officially be introduced as the new Crimson Tide AD until sometime later this week, but there has already been quite a bit of reaction to the hire. Here are some national responses to the news.
