Jimmie Johnson was originally scheduled to meet with the Auburn Tigers and Coach Gus Malzahn on Thursday in what they were calling the “Champions” meeting.

The meeting, put together by Talladega Superspeedway, was to provide the opportunity for two of 2013’s biggest sports figures (Malzahn and Johnson) to meet and share their success stories.

Unfortunately, news broke Monday afternoon that the brother-in-law of the 6-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion tragically died in a skydiving accident late Sunday. Understandably, Johnson will no longer be able to be on the Auburn campus this Thursday for the activities scheduled as he will be with his family during this time.

In a press release, representatives from Talladega said,

We are communicating with his race team and are hoping to figure out another date for an appearance that works best for everyone involved. When we have information on that future appearance, we will be sure to let you know. On behalf of Talladega Superspeedway, thanks so much for your interest in covering the event.

We are currently finalizing plans for some other driver events leading up to Aaron’s Dream Weekend (May 2-4) so we will keep you posted.
