When we first moved in almost seventeen years ago, Perry suggested this room could be where my friends and I had our 'tea parties' and it's been called that ever since. Sadly, this room has always felt disconnected from the rest of the house and I hoped to change that.

The colors in the other rooms in the house are more muted so I wanted at least one room to pack a bold punch. I fell in love with anything indigo so the paint I chose was Dragonfly by Pittsburgh Paints. To give the walls a little breathing room, we exaggerated the baseboards and painted the trim the whitest white we could find.

I purchased the green chairs at The Vintage Station and had them recovered in the pattern visible in the picture. The couch was recovered last year using painter's drop cloth from Walmart.

I wanted to modernize the fireplace and decided to use tile. I found the tiles I ultimately chose on sale on an end cap at Home Depot. I literally shut a corner of Home Depot down and laid out the small sheets of tile and once I saw them arranged, I knew I'd finally found the solution.

I used Danish oil on the dining room table that we've had for over ten years and the TLC made a big difference in the appearance.

The cloud picture is extra special because when my father-in-law was sick, I'd taken a picture of the actual sky above him while he lay in bed. We tacked it on the ceiling so he would have something to look at instead of a white ceiling. I love being reminded of the last beautiful scene he saw before passing away.

I'd originally intended to stain the hardwood floors but once I saw the wood stripped, I changed my mind and asked them to go ahead and seal it. I thought the natural color was beautiful. It goes without saying, your vision means nothing if you don't have folks who can pull it off so I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my builders, Brian, Benessa and Brooke.

I love this room and I hope you will as well. In the mean time, enjoy the before and after photo gallery below.
