Several years ago, during an on-air conversation between Scott Shepherd and myself, the confession that my mother had denied me the joy associated with cooking in an Easy Bake oven was revealed. Placing the small round pan into a tiny oven then hearing the ding signal my tiny cake was ready was a dream from my youth I'd never abandoned.

A few days later, Scott Shepherd received a phone call during the show which he'd been anticipating. He excused himself and returned a few minutes later carrying a large pink bag. His wife, Randi, had packed up their daughter's Easy Bake oven, along with the ingredients to bake brownies, and kindly delivered them to the station.

My experience with the Easy Bake oven confirmed my worst fear. Even a toy oven exceeds my skill level as a cook.
