It started with a song for Tenille Arts, a Shania Twain song. She was singing "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" in her yard one day, and eight years later, she finds herself as one of country music's hottest newcomers.

Arts is November's #LetTheGirlsPlay artist of the month and part of Pandora's Country Artists to Watch list for 2017, but it took a long time to get there.

"I grew up listening to (Shania Twain) music," Arts says. "I was singing in my backyard, just like belting out Shania Twain songs and my neighbor overheard my singing and told my mom 'Maybe you should put her in voice lessons.'"

Both Twain and Arts are Canadian. The 22-year-old newcomer is from Weyburn, Saskatchewan., just north of North Dakota. She visited Nashville often growing up, but didn't truly commit to a career in American until she signed a publishing deal one year ago. Now she has a self-titled EP available at iTunes and on streaming sites, and she's an official Artist to Watch.

"I probably wouldn’t have dreamed this big a year ago," she says. "I just didn’t realize how many things could happen so quickly with me being here. You can set up that meeting tomorrow and just everything can happen a lot faster. I wasn’t prepared for that."

Look for Arts regularly on Song Suffragettes shows every Monday night at the Listening Room in Nashville. Taste of Country joined the #LetTheGirlsPlay movement nearly two years ago to shine a light on talented new females in country music.
